Not long before Scott Allie went onstage at last night’s edition of the always-worth-it Comics Underground, we were told, Adam Baldwin asked if he could use a bit of upcoming art from Serenity: Leaves on the Wind as his new Twitter avatar, which I’ve lifted and posted here. (I’m not sure if this is from a main Dan dos Santos cover or a variant.) Meanwhile, we got to see Allie and a small crew of Dark Horse and TFAW staffers do a live reading of the opening to the first issue of the upcoming mini-series, and while I’ve no idea if any other attendees will spoil what’s coming (there was a “no photography” rule in effect for it), I won’t. Suffice it to say that Browncoats will be crapping themselves in excitement. Zack Whedon has the voice, and Georges Jeanty is doing some great work. Talking to Mike Russell after, it seemed pretty clear to us that perhaps one reason it’s taken so long for new Serenity comics wasn’t licensing or Zack’s availability but having a reason to tell a new story. I think they have one, based on what we saw last night.
